Range of Motion Assessments

Range of motion assessments

Range of motion (ROM) describes the distance and direction that a joint can stretch. Most joints allow for a certain amount of movement in one or more directions.

When undertaking a ROM assessment, I will measure the degree to which you can straighten, bend, or rotate your joint this is largely focused on the hip, spine, and torso-pelvic stability.

The testing values are a simple traffic light system – normal, moderate, and marked restrictions.

This helps highlight problem areas quickly and easily. Thus, helping to prioritise areas for intervention.

The tests have a clinical heritage e.g., Sit & Reach and Thomas Tests.

It will provide you with a better understanding of your body and inform any subsequent practice to improve your range of motion. Doing so could protect against injury and enhance both daily activity and athletic performance.

I can undertake the ROM assessment at a convenient location to you.

Below is an example of some before and after photos!

  • I was fortunate to work 1-2-1 with a 22-year-old right & left footed semi- professional football player.
  • He is a winger/forward.
