Myself and some very lovely ladies were invited to talk on BBC Radio Lancashire last Friday afternoon about a women’s wellness day that is happening at Lostock Hall Medical centre on Saturday 24th between 10 - 2pm.

Sarah Ramsden had come to an end .
She spent 13 years in Professional Football, 10 years plus with Man Utd & Man City.
She worked with Ryan Giggs for over 10 years until his retirement.
Helping his extraordinary longevity within the game.
She always says she has taught us everything she knows. Love her, she’s totally fab.

To turn a pretty much impromptu photo shoot into so many amazing shots of someone who is not comfortable in front of the camera is a real skill .

I’ve been working with Niall since the beginning of March as he came to me after an injury hoping I may be able to help.
The first photo was taken on 3rd March after we went through a variety of passive range of movement tests to get a baseline reading to determine where he had restricted movement in the body which may have contributed to his injuries. This guided my sequencing.
Over a period of months we worked on mobility, flexibility, stability & breathing techniques to bring him back towards normal ranges of movement . Last week I reassessed him and he his ROM had improved significantly moving from restricted to normal ranges in the majority of areas.
These two photos of sit & reach, although only showing one small example of what we had been working on, are an easy visual to show his progress in just this one posture.
His determination and commitment to improve his body means he can return to preseason with confidence. Ready for the season ahead .

Last Wednesday my wonderful Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep on the day I was due to leave for @rocketbeatslondon yoga retreat @the_quaives in Canterbury.
The retreat was kind of bad timing but actually amazing timing because it really helped distract me, I was able to start to process my loss and it helped to prepare me mentally for the next stage of sorting out his funeral and belongings.
I’m so glad I went.
It was the most amazing experience.
4 days of full on hardcore Rocket yoga with the absolute legends that are @alanellmanyoga & @imiwiseman.
Plus I had the absolute pleasure of practicing side by side with the amazing @lauramcvicker @rafaelk_3 @kristin_1972 @callyaudrey @moniyogilondon and all the rest of the most welcoming, fun loving, upbeat & happy bunch of like minded rocketeers.
It is a moment in my life that I will never ever forget as @rocketbeatslondon got me through some of the toughest days of my life and the wonderful Mary & Pablo made sure we all ate magnificently to feed our souls.
Honestly I cannot thank all of you enough for such a fantastic retreat full of fun , laughter , food, walks, booze, hot tubbing , techno and very very very sweaty mental yoga as we were put through our paces by Imi & Alan. What a team.
All done with the stunning Quaives countryside retreat as our backdrop - once home to @christinemcvieofficial from Fleetwood Mac.

On Tuesday night I had the absolute pleasure of teaching yoga to the Hoppers first XV rugby squad.
I think it’s fair to say they enjoyed themselves.
It was a bit of a tight squeeze but that added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the night.
The players embraced every moment of it and the coaching team and the club really made me feel so welcome.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day and to help the pupils of @maricourtchs relax their busy minds and calm down their nervous system we practiced the ancient Indian technique of Yoga Nidra, which can amongst other things help relieve stress.
We also practiced yogic breathing.
I hope over the course of my sessions with them they will really start to feel the benefits long term.

After being unwell early September I’ve struggled to build my strength back and I’ve found it frustrating as my practice is my way of meditating …..my moving meditation!
It enables me to find clarity and strength not just in my body but in my mind.
Finally after small consistent steps of practice, focus & concentration I can feel myself coming back.
Some of my Instagram friends have reminded me lately to trust this process, focus inwards and it will happen.
When you practice you find
Discipline.

I’m my own worst critic , I look at this picture and think ……..
well my hips aren’t quite aligned properly and my raised leg isn’t as straight as it could be…….etc etc etc ……
But really yoga isn’t about the perfect pose it’s about devoting energy to working on the body and the mind to reach the soul …….. it’s the journey of the self, through the self to the self (The Bhagavad Gita)

One of my own yoga teachers, the wonderful Imi Wiseman told us recently during our practice “to come out of our comfort zone” in a pose and try something new, maybe change the direction of the gaze, or release the grip on a pose and trust our strength or flexibility in an asana.
Yoga teaches us to focus on the breath to guide us through a challenging posture and help us channel our concentration.
Yoga reminds us that we can make it through difficult times and that we can handle uncomfortable situations and move onto the next posture without having attachment and to just let go of what did or didn’t happen.
The lessons we learn in our asana practice can be applied to physical , mental and emotional challenges in our everyday life .
Yoga teaches us to respond and to not react, to be mindful and to be patient.
Yoga really is a way of life,
The skills we develop on the mat really can impact our life in positive and powerful ways.

Today is International Yoga Day.

Every Friday morning two gorgeous sisters come to me for a private yoga class, today we took it outside in the sunshine and practiced with the sounds of the birds as a backdrop and a few drills. ππππππ

Yoga teaches us to remain calm and focus on the breath to quieten the mind when faced with challenging asanas or stressful situations.
Inversions also increase the blood flow to the brain giving it more oxygen, boosting concentration allowing you to think clearly amongst other things.
I personally love being upside down it helps me think

After thousands and thousands of vinyasas and asanas I felt it time for a new mat as my old trusted friend was pretty worn thin at either end.
Then when I put the two mats together old and new -
I realised how worn out the old one actually was .

Anyone who has been to my classes and practiced with me knows I place a great deal of emphasis on the breath.
I teach many different breathing techniques to help my students take conscious control over their breath and help them calm the nervous system down and activate the parasympathetic.
With it being Mental Health Awareness week I thought it necessary to highlight the benefits of breathing deeply and consciously and how it can help quieten the mind and nervous system.
Deep conscious breathing can:
Calm us down
Reduce stress
Increase alertness
Improve blood flow to the brain
Boost the immune system
Help control concentration
Improve vitality .
All this leads to contentment .
Most people breathe incorrectly and only use a small part of their lung capacity, and shallow breathe.
Irregular breathing disrupts the rhythms of the brain and leads to physical, emotional & mental blockages which can cause stress.
In Yoga we give a lot of importance to breathing/ pranayama and how the mind and the emotions are linked.
It is difficult to control the mind, But it is possible to control the breath!
Conscious breathing has an emotionally calming effect.
Even developing simple breath awareness without even taking active control will result in a regular and relaxing rhythm which will help still the mind, enhance our mood positively and improve our physical health .

Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
It can also been done from a distance, and does not require me to be “hands on” or even in the same room.
The word Reiki comes from 2 Japanese words
Rei = universal
Ki = life energy
This energy is the same as Chi in Chinese Medicine and Prana in Indian Yogic Philosophy.
When this energy flows uninterrupted in our bodies there is harmony and balance within and around us and we experience a sense of well-being.
But when there has been physical injury or emotional pain the energy can stagnate in the body and cause blockages which can result in stress and even physical & mental illnesses.
Reiki aims to help the flow of energy in the body and clear the blockages and restore balance.
Reiki is an alternative healing therapy which enhances the body’s own ability to self heal and should be used as a compliment to other treatments to facilitate the healing process in the body.

I took my first in person Yoga Nidra class today with one of my lovely one to one regulars. It was an amazing experience as I know my client won’t mind me saying this but they went very deep and really did experience the healing powers of Yoga Nidra!
For those who don’t know
Yoga Nidra is an ancient technique where the practitioner enters a deep state of conscious relaxation.
It is a practice of moving the awareness from external to internal, Where the brain activity reduces and the body relaxes.
It is said that one hour of Yoga Nidra can give the same benefits as a four hour sleep!
YN can be practiced by anyone and holds immense benefits for all of those who :-
